Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has praised Fulham’s Raul Jimenez, hailing his international teammate as “an example”.
Gimenez has been speaking to Marca in Spain about his career to date during the Dutch side’s winter training camp in Marbella.
That interview covered a range of topics, from his impressive performances in the Netherlands so far to what may lay ahead on the international stage with Mexico.
He’s already made 24 appearances for his country, scoring four goals, and is set to be their star striker in the years to come.
That’s a role he’ll assume from Fulham star Raul Jimenez, who has been the leading man for El Tri for the last decade after making his debut in January 2013.
He returned to the international set up in 2021 after recovering from a skull fracture, he suffered in the clash with Arsenal and has been in and out of the side since, similar to his situation at Wolves and now Fulham.
He’s currently battling back for Marco Silva’s side after joining them in the summer and was in good form over December, something Gimenez was glad to see.
“The first thing is that Raúl, for me, is a reference in every sense, football and personal,” he said.
“Life hit him hard after that injury and, although people sometimes don’t realize it, he was off the playing field for a year. He fought for his life, first, and then fought to return to football.
“And now he is still in the Premier, the best League in the world, and he continues scoring goals. He is an example to follow and demonstrates it every day.”
