Flamengo’s fanbase in social media were this week caught by a surprising rumour, as it’s now said that defender Pablo Mari could soon be heading back to the club.

The 28-year-old left the Rio de Janeiro side on a move from Arsenal in January 2020, and according to new claims, his time in London could be close to coming to an end.

Although there are many outlets talking about this possibility, all of them credit one source, which is Youtube channel Gustavo Henrique Dando Choque, as he’s the one who claims to have spoken to Flamengo officials who talked about the chance.

“It’s evident that Flamengo wants the player to return, however, they have to wait for the window to open,” said Gustavo Henrique (via Torcedores).

“I talked to an important person at the club who told me the following: ‘Gustavo, how can I say that Flamengo don’t want Marí’s return? It is evident that Flamengo wants it, but there are many details that need to be fixed for him to return. Today, we still have no contact with Arsenal on this matter. But we don’t rule out anything’. So let’s wait for news.”

Now before we get on board with this story, we better point out that Gustavo Henrique doesn’t really have a great reputation in the Brazilian media.

He’s the one who insisted that Gustavo Cuellar was moving to West Ham United, only for the player to end up in Saudi Arabia.

Regarding Mari’s situation, it’s fair to say he isn’t having a great time at Arsenal.

Despite playing the two first fixtures in Premier League this season, he hasn’t entered the pitch for the Gunners since September and his contract with the club runs until 2024.
