Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez has told Mexico’s TUDN that Fulham’s Raúl Jiménez is an inspiration for him.
Jiménez has impressed for Fulham this season, scoring five goals and registering an assist from 11 matches.
The 33-year-old’s performances for Fulham and Giménez’s injury helped him return to the Mexico squad earlier this month, for the first time since last November.
He arrived at the Premier League side from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2023.
The striker suffered a skull fracture while in action with his former club in November 2020. Earlier this month, Jiménez’s wife, Daniel Basso, opened up about her traumatic experience.
Jiménez struggled with other injuries over the past few years, but things are going well for him at Fulham.
Former Mexico striker Jared Borgetti was earlier thrilled with the Fulham man overcoming injury concerns. The Eredivisie star has joined to heap praise on the Mexico international for not giving up.
When both are fit, Jiménez and Giménez will be fighting to be first choice striker for the national team. The pair are expected to continue to battle for this spot for the 2026 World Cup.
The Feyenoord player went on to express his admiration for the former Benfica man.
“Raúl generates something very nice in me, not because he scored the goals, but because of how he came out of that injury he had, when everything was falling apart, he could have left football, his life was in danger and then he came back, then he had problems with pubalgia, those are the examples that make me admire someone,” he said.
“I admire Raúl first as a person and then as a footballer, but the present he has given me a lot of happiness. He has come out of very painful circumstances, today you see him and he’s shining. He’s a clear example to follow.”
