Chelsea star César Azpilicueta is reportedly aiming to leave the west London club in the summer window. Recent claims have indicated Atlético Madrid are expected to be his next destination.

Three days ago, Mundo Deportivo stated the La Liga side want to close his signing before July 7th.

Thursday’s AS brings us more on Atlético’s efforts to sign the Chelsea defender, after they completed deals for Javi Galán and Çağlar Söyüncü.

Diego Simeone’s side also are working on signing Racing Montevideo’s Santiago Mouriño, who’s already in Madrid. AS add the other operation that ‘remains to be finalised’ is that of Azpilicueta.

It’s stated ‘everything is discussed’ with the Spaniard for a two-year deal but there’s ‘still the necessary process of his separation’ from Chelsea.

The 33-year-old’s contract expires in 2024 but the newspaper state he ‘will rescind’ his contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

AS say Los Rojiblancos want this final details with Chelsea to be sorted out between today and tomorrow, after which the player can undergo a medical and start pre-season training with his new club.
