Over the weekend, we covered claims from the Spanish media which stated Tottenham Hotspur are playing a game of patience with Barcelona over Clement Lenglet.
The Blaugrana really need to sell the defender because his high wages, agreed by the club’s last set of leadership, simply don’t work with the restrictions on finances at the Camp Nou.
The gist was that Spurs have seen Barcelona agree a contract termination with Samuel Umtiti, and are holding out for similar with Lenglet.
Monday’s reports are a little different.
Sport report there’s confidence a deal will be agreed with Tottenham, and ‘everything indicates’ that will happen. They say there’s less than €5m difference between the two clubs on valuation.
The Premier League club are said to be offering €10m, whereas Barcelona are holding out for €15m. That seems rather ambitious from the Blaugrana, and it’s likely that if a deal is agreed it will be on Tottenham’s terms.
Sport, a Catalan newspaper, also say an agreement needs to be reached with Lenglet over wages he’s owed and the rest of his contract, with it being almost certain Spurs won’t match the terms he’s currently on.
There’s still money owed from salary deferred during the height of the pandemic, but Sport don’t present that as a huge issue.
Marca say Lenglet is in no hurry to secure a new club and has informed Barcelona he’ll turn up for preseason training on July 10th.
