Jhon Solís left Girona to join Birmingham City on a loan deal in the winter market.

At the start of this year, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the Blues will pay €500k as a loan fee. Birmingham City also have an €8m purchase obligation linked to set conditions.

Last month, the 21-year-old revealed he turned down several clubs to join Chris Davies’ side. He insisted it’s possible to extend his stay at St Andrew’s while he didn’t close the door on retiring to Girona.

At that time, he said: “There’s a possibility I’ll stay; it’s a loan with an option to buy. So far, I’ve felt very good. There’s the possibility of staying, but also the possibility of going back.”

The Colombia international so far played 1,083 minutes from 16 matches for Birmingham City and 15 are from the league.

His Championship stats are as follows:

  • Appearances: 15
  • Starts: 11
  • Total minutes: 969
  • Minutes per game: 65

Birmingham City keen to keep Solís

Infobae in Colombia now cover the latest on the Girona owned player’s future beyond this season.

Jhon Solís didn’t enjoy a good run at the La Liga side, especially this season, playing 531 minutes from 14 matches. His decision to move to England has improved his situation.

Although he made a handful of appearances, Birmingham City believe his performances have exceeded expectations. This would convince them to exercise the clause to buy him.

There’s no confirmation yet on the conditions, but ‘everything indicates’ these terms are practically met. In other words, the English club have to pay €8m to the La Liga side.

The Blues are happy with his displays while are also the South American is still far from showcasing his full potential. Their plan is not just for present but view him as a part of their medium and long-term project.

Our take: Permanent Blues benefits all parties

Jhon Solís is unlikely to have a future at Girona, if he were to return to the Catalan club.

Therefore, Birmingham City’s plan to buy him will see Girona collect €8m in transfer fee. It also provides the Colombian the stability for his career while the Blues will get a player capable for further improving his game.

In short, the permanent move to St Andrew’s is beneficial for all three parties.
