Leeds United‘s Gabriel Gudmundsson has enjoyed his debut season with the Premier League side.
The Sweden international arrived from Lille in July 2025 and quickly cemented his place under Daniel Farke.
He finished the season with 2,936 minutes from 35 matches for Leeds United of which 32 were in the league.
The left-back last made an appearance for the Whites in their league win over Chelsea in April as an injury kept him on the sidelines.
Last month, the fullback said he was focusing on regaining full fitness for the World Cup. He made it to Graham Potter’s final list and played a friendly draw against Greece last week.
Connection with Leeds United owner
Sweden will have their base in Dallas for the World Cup and will train at NFL side Dallas Cowboys’ home stadium in Arlington.
Tuesday’s edition of Svenska Dagbladet have an interview with Gabriel Gudmundsson.
He was one of the players who got access into their cockpit before the trip to Dallas.
The Swedish newspaper points out the Leeds United player knows NFL well. He has no favourite team but has a soft spot for San Francisco 49ers.
The Elland Road club are owned by 49ers Enterprises and Gudmundsson talked about this connection.
“The 49ers own Leeds so there’s been a bit more feeling for them [San Francisco 49ers],” he said.
The 27-year-old also provided a positive update on his fitness, after a short break in May.
“It had been more than five weeks since I played a match. I got a good and much-needed dose. We had a plan to build myself up for the World Cup and I feel one hundred percent physically,” Gudmundsson explained.
“The rhythm wasn’t the best, but the most important thing was to get going and feel it again.”
Praises Leeds United fans
The Premier League side finished 14th, eight points ahead of 18th placed West Ham United.
Gabriel Gudmundsson enjoyed his first season in England and the fans voted him as their Play of the Season. He insists Leeds United’s goal was to avoid relegation.
“The goal was to help the club stay. Everything has felt good. It will be exciting to see what we can do further down the line with the group we have,” he added.
When asked whether he has created a bond with the Leeds United supporters, the Swede said: “I think so. They have been supportive all season, absolutely fantastic. From the first day I arrived. They have been a big factor in the success we have had.”
