As has been drilled in our head by the Italian media for weeks now, Sokratis Papastathopolous is Napoli’s option to replace Kalidou Koulibaly should the centre-back leave.
The Arsenal defender is out of favour at the Emirates, and many articles have suggested any operation to bring the Greek to the south of Italy would be a quick one.
It then all went a bit quiet, but that’s because he’s simply waiting.
Reports have emerged explaining he’s not prepared to wait forever, with offers from other clubs landing on his desk, with the latest coming from Nice in France.
This is according to Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato, who explained the latest in the situation to Kiss Kiss Napoli, relayed by Area Napoli.
He said: “Satisfactory offers have not arrived for [Koulibaly]. The club have locked Sokratis, but Nice also requested him. We will see what happens in the next few days. If Napoli sell Kalidou Koulibaly on October 4th, they can send a certified e-mail the morning of the 5th to Arsenal since everything is already done for the purchase of the Greek”.
He doesn’t explain what the details of this so-called ‘purchase’ are, and it might end up being a case of having to wait and see.
We know the situation, as does everyone else, but until Aurelio De Laurentiis gets the offer he wants for his star, Sokratis will need to be patient.
