Freiburg coach Christian Streich has insisted that “everyone was happy” to see Kevin Schade join Brentford this month.
Schade became Brentford’s first signing of the January transfer window at the beginning of this month, joining on a initial loan deal.
That includes a clause for the move to be made permanent in the summer if certain objectives are met, with Brentford admitting in their announcement of the deal that it was very likely to be the case.
The move brings an end to a four year stay at Freiburg for Schade, who initially joined the German side from Cottbus Youth and worked his way up to the first team before going on to make 36 appearances in all competitions for them.
It means a departure was likely something of an emotional one for the player and the club, who will have built up a relationship over the years.
Current Freiburg manager Christian Streich insists it was a deal that suited everyone, though, detailing how Schade said goodbye.
“Kevin Schade is in Brentford, and we now hope that he will become stable there. Physically, overall, that he moves forward, becomes stable and plays well there,” he told SWR.
“He said goodbye at home, he said something to the team, and we said goodbye to him. Then everyone did it personally, because there are connections and relationships. And then you leave. But that’s how it is in football and certainly in many other industries nowadays.
“That’s why a change like this is a bit normal for the boys. Kevin was looking forward to this adventure in London.
“It worked out well here with the training at the football school. We got a certain amount of money, which is good for us to stay financially healthy. That’s why everyone was happy.”
