Ever since Everton Cebolinha started being linked with a move to the Premier League, at Sport Witness we’ve wanted one thing and one thing only: For him to sign for Everton.
Sure, it’s a childish wish but in a difficult world little things like someone called Everton playing for Everton have to be grasped.
Now it may be happening, the chance is appearing on the horizon after strong claims came from Brazil.
Journalist Bruno Andrade reports Everton will ‘officialise’ a €35m offer for Everton in the coming hours. Agent Kia Joorabchian was in London last week and that’s where the talks have happened.
Similar claims are coming UOL’s SportBuzz, also in Brazil, and it’s being seen as a big deal for his club Gremio.
In July of this year, the player said: “It is the dream of every player who plays at a high level, who dreams to play at a high level, to play in Europe. I believe that for me, the most disputed football at the moment is the English, which is a league that attracts a lot of my attention.
“If it was to choose a league to play, the English would be a dream come true… To play in a league of a very high technical level, tactically as well. It would certainly add a lot in my career.”
The Cebolinha part of Everton’s nickname has often been translated as ‘The Little Onion’, but there’s more to it than that.
Cebolinha is a character of a Brazilian comic book series called Monica’s Gang. The English version translated the name to Jimmy Five. Everton has a supposed resemblance.
An attacker playing mainly on the left, Everton has a ratio of 0.43 goals a game in Brazil’s Serie A for the past season.
