Villarreal will remain firm on Thierno Barry’s release clause and insist that Everton or any other suitors pay it outright for the forward.

That’s according to La Razon, who report that Everton ‘threaten to pay’ the €40m figure to sign the 22-year-old this summer.

They explain that Villarreal are standing their ground when it comes to their star players this summer, not wishing to see their team disassembled after qualifying for the Champions League.

Everton ‘aspires to’ take Barry but Villarreal are insistent that they will not negotiate for the forward. If anyone wants him, they will have to pay his €40m. Reports elsewhere have suggested that Everton are willing to do that.

The striker’s 19 goals and four assists in 41 appearances for the Spanish side last season have not gone unnoticed by Everton as they look to bolster David Moyes’ forward line this summer.

Whether they’d be willing to pay such a price for Barry, remains to be seen. Either way, Villarreal are not willing to negotiate for him.

They have, though, started to identify possible replacements in case anyone, including the Toffees, do decide to just pay that €40m release clause.
