Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has told the Dutch media he’s happy about how the season has gone for him so far. The Dutchman signed for the Merseyside club in the summer on a free transfer, after his contract ended with Fulham.

Speaking to AD.nl ahead of tonight’s friendly with Belgium, Stekelenburg was asked about how he’s settled in at Everton. The former AS Roma goalkeeper believes the season has gone well for him so far, and is delighted he’s getting regular games.

The Everton No.1 believes its great knowing during the week that you will be playing at the weekend.

“It has gone pretty well this season. You work really hard for the weekend, knowing that you play. That’s wonderful,” said the Everton No.1.

Stekelenburg has put in some impressive displays since joining Everton in the last window, most notably when he saved two penalties against Manchester City.

His form for the Premier League side has earned him a recall to the Netherlands squad, and he’ll be expected to start the game against Belgium after getting the nod from Danny Blind in the last two internationals.
