Everton midfielder Amadou Onana may have just proven to Barcelona that he’s worth paying for this summer, with his performance against Kylian Mbappe.
That’s at least according to Mundo Deportivo, who report that the midfielders’ display against France and Mbappe in particular was a clear demonstration of ‘why Barca wants him’.
The newspaper explains that the Everton star ‘demonstrated all the virtues that seduce’ those in charge at Barcelona in Belgium’s 1-0 defeat to France on Monday.
The Catalan club want to improve in midfield this summer and Onana is ‘among the most liked’ on the club’s shortlist of options at this moment in time.
He showed his abilities clearly in the loss to France, which saw him tasked with keeping Kylian Mbappe quiet, a job he did to great effect.
He was excellent in any duels, enjoyed a 92% pass success rate and was not dribbled past at any point either, all facts Barcelona will have been paying attention to according to Mundo.
They say the club are currently choosing between the Everton man and Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino, although the Belgian is more liked than the Spaniard at this moment in time.
Whether that leads to a move from Everton happening remains to be seen as Barcelona’s finances are tight and the midfielder has other suitors too, but his performance against Mbappe may have just convinced Barcelona to try and make it happen.
