Everton star Amadou Onana’s inclusion in the Belgium squad for the international break is a ‘welcome return’ as having him in the side is a ‘blessing’.
That’s according to Proximus, who are full of praise for the Everton midfielder and see him as a ‘born leader’ for his country.
They explain that after he was missing from the last Belgium squad in June, having Onana back is a boost for Domenico Tedesco and his side this month.
They say Onana has already made a name for himself both on and off the field, despite only managing six caps for his country so far.
As far as they are concerned, he has quickly become a ‘strongman’ in the national team and that is only linked to develop further now that more experienced players such as Axel Witsel have retired.
Having the Everton man in the team is a ‘blessing’ as he is a ‘vacuum cleaner’ who does not hesitate to do the dirty work so his teammate can shine. That role was played by Witsel for years and it now appears likely to be Onana’s.
He has already shown he can been more than a simple water carrier for the team, with ‘discrete but effective’ performances already under his belt and an assertive nature when on the pitch.
Proximus believe the Everton star is a ‘born leader’ and could quickly become the ‘standard-bearer’ of the new generation of Belgian talent that is coming through and hoping to shine where the so-called Golden Generation faltered.
A future role as captain could be on the cards, something the player has already admitted he would love, should Domenico Tedesco wish it.
That remains to be seen, for now it’s a case of continuing to build on an already burgeoning reputation that is already seeing him eyed as one of the key men for his country despite barely featuring for them.
