Everton are likely to face a fight to keep Amadou Onana in the summer transfer window after he ‘held initial talks’ about a move away in January.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say there is Premier League interest in the Belgian after his performances this season.
Onana joined Everton from Lille in the summer and has been a key player for them this season, often shining in what has been another difficult campaign for the Toffees.
He has been able to show that he has a bright future in the game despite that and reports in January made it clear that he was being targeted.
At that point it was Chelsea who were brought into the mix, with them spending freely to add to Graham Potter’s squad.
A move never happened and Onana later insisted that he had no intention of going anywhere, preferring to stick with Everton and get them out of the mess they found themselves in.
It seems there will be interest in the summer again, though, with Fussball Transfers explaining that those in charge at Stamford Bridge still have their eye on the midfielder.
They explain that Boehly and co ‘held initial talks’ with the Belgian midfielder but neither the player nor Everton were interested in doing a deal and ‘prematurely’ ending their relationship.
The Toffees see Onana as a ‘fixture’ in their time and don’t want to lose him, particularly after just a year at Goodison Park.
The reality, though, is that his ‘rapid development’ has not gone unnoticed and it ‘would not be surprising’ if interest in him were to be rekindled next summer.
