While Everton’s transfer window could be considered a success, not signing a centre back was a significant drawback.
The Blues had wanted to bring back Kurt Zouma, who spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, but were unable to convince Chelsea to sell and ultimately failed to add in the position.
That’s left Marco Silva with Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate as options at centre back this season, an issue most feel will need resolving come the January transfer window.
According to TodoFichajes, that solution may come in the shape of Santos Laguna defender Matheus Dória.
The website reports that Everton are interested in the centre back, who has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign in Mexico.
Indeed, it’s claimed Everton have made their interest known to the club, who have placed a €12m price tag on their player. He has a contract until 2021 with Santos Laguna, and TodoFichajes say they will ‘not make his exit easy’.
It’s not mentioned whether Everton would be willing to pay that price, but given they would have spent more than double for Zouma, and desperately need further cover, it may be a price they’d consider fair for the 24-year-old.
Work permit scenarios would need to be studied.
