Everton are making a bid for Atletico Madrid fullback Santiago Arias, and could face competition from Newcastle United and Wolves, according to claims from the player’s country.
It’s Colombian radio station Caracol who makes the claims today, saying the 28-year-old ‘seems destined’ to move to the Premier League.
There aren’t many details on how much Everton will be offering or even if the bid is likely to be accepted by Atletico Madrid.
All they say is that the offer could be delivered to the La Liga side ‘in the coming hours’. It’s also claimed that the transfer would be ‘benefited’ by Djibril Sidibé’s return to Monaco, as the Toffees couldn’t find an agreement to keep him at Goodison Park.
Since Everton already had Yerry Mina and have now added James Rodriguez to the squad, the arrival of Santiago Arias would be welcomed in Colombia, so there’s a chance the media there is getting a little carried away.
Caracol says the Toffees also have competition from Newcastle United and Wolves, but there’s no information on any moves made by these Premier League rivals.
