Olimpija Ljubljana goalkeeper Matevž Vidovšek’s impressive performances this season have drawn interest from other European clubs, including Everton.
That’s according to RTV Slovenija, who state the Toffees and Udinese are chasing the 23-year-old.
It’s claimed Everton and the Serie A side had officials in attendance at the Stadion Stožice on Thursday to watch Vidovšek live in action.
Olimpija Ljubljana beat NK Celje in the penalty shootout of the Pokal Slovenije quarter-final clash and the stopper was the hero for his side. His ‘exceptional’ display was watched by Everton and Udinese scouts.
Vidovšek has 18 clean sheets and has conceded 19 goals from 28 games this season. It has helped him attract attention from the Merseyside club and others.
After yesterday’s tie, the Slovenian was asked about reports linking him to Everton and Udinese.
“I don’t deal with that. For me, the first place is Olimpija, to win the double crown, and then we will talk further,” he said.
The goalkeeper may find it difficult to obtain a work permit to play in the UK, if Everton want to secure his services. Although Vidovšek has been part of Slovenia’s senior squad, he’s yet to represent them.
RTV Slovenija state the work permit will be an ‘obstacle’ for him to seal a move to Everton in the summer.
