Salomón Rondón could be set for a return to former club Málaga after it was announced he will be departing Everton.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who look at the player today and how he may be targeted after being released from Goodison Park.
The Venezuelan forward is set to leave Everton on January 1st after coming to an agreement with the Blues to terminate his contract early.
That will bring an end to a miserable spell on Merseyside that has seen him score just three times in 31 games since arriving on a free transfer in last year’s summer transfer window.
He will now be in search of a new club and Málaga are one of those who could make a proposal to him, Estadio Deportivo believe.
They say that Rondón believes he can ‘still play at the top level’, although he is aware that he needs minutes and regularity so he can continue his international career. That could present Málaga with their opportunity as they can offer both to him.
The Spanish side were keen on a deal before Everton signed him in 2021, with sporting director Manolo Gaspar admitting as much.
“I did everything possible to bring Rondón back, but it was impossible. He’s in the Champions League and we’re being reborn”, he told Área Malaguista’ programme on ‘101tv’ at the time.
Now the situation is ‘totally different’, although Rondón will need to establish his priorities, playing time or salary.
His demands for the latter ‘will be high’ but there is a hope that his ‘affection’ for Málaga and the ‘good memories’ he has of playing there will work in their favour.
It remains to be seen if Gaspar will pursue a deal again but now that Rondón is set to leave Everton, the possibility of getting his man this time around is there.
