The Portuguese press is today full of stories about Gedson Fernandes, who’s said to be in negotiations to leave Benfica.

It’s West Ham who are in Lisbon speaking to the Eagles officials, and that’s why they get the focus in most of the stories.

But at least three different outlets have also given Everton a mention, making it clear the Toffees still have a chance to sign the 20-year-old.

One of them is A Bola, who despite reporting West Ham’s meeting, still claims Everton are ‘attentive’ to the midfielder’s situation.

After reporting the Hammers couldn’t find an agreement, Record adds that the Goodison Park club are one of the clubs who have ‘already shown their interest’. That means the London side ‘aren’t the only possibility of an exit’.

Finally there’s O Jogo, who brings another type of story, claiming there have been some agent issues which could hold Fernandes from leaving.

They say Miguel Pinho is officially the midfielder’s agent, but Jorge Mendes and Pini Zahavi have been negotiating on his behalf as well.

They say Everton and West Ham are reluctant to get into a complicated agent battle, and that’s what has been ‘throwing sand’ on his departure for now.

O Jogo also reports West Ham’s meeting with Benfica, but when starting the story and speaking of the agents, they always name Everton as equals in the race for the midfielder.
