With the Africa Cup of Nations now completed the future of Idrissa Gana Gueye is likely to be sorted sooner rather than later.
Paris Saint Germain remain in hot pursuit of the Everton midfielder after chasing him throughout the January transfer window.
Manager Thomas Tuchel is a big fan of the Senegal star and has convinced new Sporting Director Leonardo to go all out for him. That appears to be happening and talks between the two clubs have been progressing over the last week or so.
Le Parisien cover the story today and it appears that Gueye is now very close to getting his dream move, being just a ‘step away’.
The newspaper reports that PSG want to get the deal done by the beginning of the week and Everton are keen to see it finalised quickly as well.
Gueye could even come back off his holidays, he’s enjoying three weeks off after a busy summer, and travel to Paris to get the move done asap.
Discussions between the two clubs have been ‘continuing in recent hours’ and Le Parisien says they are ‘not very far from an agreement’.
They even have a price, saying PSG will pay around €30m for Gueye, with that deal including bonuses. Presumably, they will see the price move closer to the €40m Everton have been after since January.
The price is a little surprising given Everton’s stance but it still gives them adequate money to source a replacement for a key player.
With the window closing on August 8th, though, Marcel Brands will have to be on his toes to find that substitute or Everton could be heading into the new season looking a little short.
