Everton goalkeeper João Virgínia is in his final year of contract and his future beyond this season needs to be clarified.
The Portuguese is providing cover to Jordan Pickford in the league and has had settle for minutes in the cup competitions. He made an appearance each in the EFL Cup and FA Cup this season.
His contract situation at Everton makes him an interesting option for clubs in England and across Europe.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, and they cover interest from the Premier League, La Liga, the Championship and Benfica.
The 25-year-old had a spell at the Eagles’ academy between 2011 and 2015. Last month, he admitted there were opportunities to change clubs in the winter market, but Everton wanted him to stay.
Virgínia also stated he would like to return to Benfica, who face Barcelona in last 16 of the Champions League.
He has a concrete option of moving to Spain for free in the summer window. In addition to this and Benfica, Estadio add the stopper has offers from unnamed clubs from the Premier League and Championship.
For now, the Everton player hasn’t made a decision and feels it’s ‘too early’ to make one. Virgínia wants to wait, likely until the end of this season, and then decide the best option for him.
The growing interest may make it difficult for the Toffees to retain the goalkeeper should they want to.
