It was in 2018 that goalkeeper João Virgínia left Arsenal to join Everton, and despite belonging to the Toffees for over four years, he’s only made three appearances for the club so far.

Always looking for more playing time, the Portuguese player has already got involved in loans at Reading and Sporting, having last summer moved to Dutch side Cambuur, where he’s been a regular starter this season.

And it turns out that despite not having many chances to prove himself at Everton, there’s no regret from Virgínia for having joined the Toffees.

That’s something claimed by him in an interview with Desporto ao Minuto today.

The goalkeeper gave a long interview to the Portuguese outlet, and after speaking about his loan spells, he was asked if there are any hard feelings for not playing for the Toffees.

“No, nothing at all. I’ve already made my Premier League debut, I’ve played a few games for Everton. I know I have a challenge there, the England goalkeeper is ahead of me, but it was also one of the reasons I went there,” Virgínia told Desporto ao Minuto.

“I went to understand how Pickford worked, how Maarten Stekelenburg worked, and working directly with Hugo Oliveira was also important because he is a great coach, one of the best Portuguese, I’m lucky to have worked with him and with mister Vital, they always gave me something good to go further.”

Playing for Cambuur this season, Virgínia has 10 appearances, being their starting goalkeeper in all of their games in Eredivisie.

He’s loaned to the Dutch side until the end of the season, and his contract with Everton expires in 2024.
