Earlier in January, Il Messaggero dismissed the idea of AS Roma signing Everton’s Beto.

Initially, the striker was seen as a target by the Italian club. This would only happen in a swap with Artem Dovbyk but the Ukraine international’s injury ruled out the Beto plan.

The 27-year-old Everton player is now back on the Italian transfer agenda, largely thanks to a Nottingham Forest swoop.

Journalist Ciro Venerato has reports the striker is now a target for Napoli. The Italian champions can lose Lorenzo Lucca to Nottingham Forest and Beto can come in as a replacement.

Nottingham Forest have had an offer accepted for Lucca, and the player is now deciding whether to join Sean Dyche’s side.

Venerato has told RAI that Napoli are keeping an eye on Everton’s Beto, now they expect to have a spot to fill.

Venerato said – relayed by AreaNapoli: Everton’s Beto Betuncal, Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Evan Ferguson are in consideration but the latter is more difficult.”

On Sunday, Roma’s sports director publicly said Manchester United have closed the door on a Zirkzee exit.

Antonio Conte likes Everton’s Beto

Venerato didn’t stop there and made it clear Antonio Conte is a fan of Beto.

He said – relayed by MondoNapoli: “Among the other strikers [sporting director Giovanni] Manna is evaluating is Beto, formerly of Udinese and now at Everton. He’s a player who seems to appeal to both Antonio Conte and the Azzurri club.”

If Napoli do sell Lucca to Nottingham Forest, it could be a good opportunity for Beto,

He is struggling for game time at Everton this season, with only 836 minutes in the Premier League. Beto would also have a fight for minutes in Naples, but he’s used to Italian football and he’d be fighting for trophies.

Napoli have Rasmus Højlund starting regularly and Romelu Lukaku should return from injury soon, although that’s not certain.
