Last week, Gianluca di Marzio reported Everton’s interest in Bologna defender Emil Holm. The Sweden international is one of a number of right-backs currently being assessed by the Toffees.
There’s options being considered in multiple leagues. For example, in Spain it’s Sevilla’s Juanlu Sanchez attracting interest from Everton, although David Moyes’ side are hesitating over a move for the 22-year-old.
Di Marzio was confident that the Toffees are trying to strengthen at right-back, but no contact had been made for Holm last week.
Now, in an odd twist, an Everton player could end up replacing Holm at Bologna.
Il Resto del Carlino report Nathan Paterson can head to Serie A, with the Rossoblu in contact to land him.
It’s unclear whether talks have been held with Everton, but David Moyes’ side might not have it easy in a move for Holm.
The report clarifies that Inter Milan also want the 25-year-old. The Nerazzurri want a long-term replacement for the aging Matteo Darmian, with enquiries made for Holm.
L’Interista have a different stance. They appear sure that the right-back isn’t a target for Cristian Chivu’s side.
Everton may be being pushed via Inter Milan

Inter Milan are seeking reliability in that position but Holm’s fitness problems are seen as a big red flag. He has already picked up two injuries in this campaign and was also missing for Bologna against Como due to flu.
This should be something that Everton keep an eye on, with Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy also mentioned as a target.
Whether Inter Milan have been dragged in to try and pressure Everton is unclear. The Toffees routinely dither over incomings, and that would especially be the case if there’s fitness concerns.
Holm would be fortunate to get a move to a club the stature of Inter Milan. Meanwhile, the Paterson angle is intriguing and maybe Everton can work out a mutually beneficial arrangement.
