There is ‘nothing happening’ regarding Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero and a potential move to Everton, a source close to the player has told Sport Witness.
The Argentine goalkeeper has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, particularly after Dean Henderson returned from a loan spell with Sheffield United to take up the number two spot behind David de Gea.
Everton have been named as potential suitors, with them in need of competition for Jordan Pickford and Romero seen as a perfect candidate to fill the role.
Those rumours were given credence by the fact he has a relationship with Everton director of football Marcel Brands, who signed him for PSV Eindhoven during his time in charge of the Dutch club.
Reports in England this week fanned the flames, with it stated outright that the Toffees could sign the Manchester United goalkeeper to challenge Pickford.
However, Carlo Ancelotti openly dismissed talk of signing a new goalkeeper when asked about the prospect in his press conference today, instead electing to back Pickford and insist he has his confidence.
And that appears to be the case, with a source close to the situation stating that there is ‘nothing happening’ in regards to the player at this moment in time.
That would suggest Everton are not actively pursuing the goalkeeper at this stage.
Of course, with ten days left of the transfer window that could always change, with plenty of time left for everyone to change their mind.
