Celta Vigo are ‘interested’ in a potential deal for Everton midfielder André Gomes after securing Rafa Benitez as their new manager.
That’s according to journalist Aaron Domínguez, who says the Spanish side are looking at a potential deal for the Portuguese midfielder this summer.
He reports that sporting director Luis Campos has identified Gomes as a potential addition to the squad this summer and is ‘working’ on a possible deal with Everton.
He’s already received the okay from incoming manager Rafa Benitez, who worked with the midfielder during his time in charge at Goodison Park.
The big issue for the Spanish side is whether financial restrictions, and La Liga’s salary cap, will allow them to make the deal happen.
They’ll likely find Everton more than willing to negotiate given Gomes spent last season out on loan at Lille and does not appear to be a part of their long-term plans.
His contract at Goodison Park also expires next summer so a decision needs to be made on the player this summer, further helping Celta’s cause.
Domínguez offers no information in terms of a fee or talks between the two clubs, just that Celta are interested, so for now it’s a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
