Salernitana remain interested in a move for Everton striker Neal Maupay, after trying to sign him last summer.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the forward is an ‘old passion’ for the club’s director of football Morgan de Sanctis.
The newspaper covers the striker today as part of a look at Boulaye Dia, who has, coincidentally we’re sure, been heavily linked with a move to Everton this summer.
He has a release clause that expires tonight, meaning there is a belief that the Toffees may make one last push to get him for €25m rather than having to pay more in the coming weeks.
One potential avenue to explore is Salernitana’s interest in Maupay, which goes all the way to last summer, according to the newspaper.
They explain that De Sanctis is looking for a striker, particularly if Dia ends up departing, and believes Maupay could be the man he needs. He eyed a move last summer and again in the January transfer window.
Maupay, for his part, is ‘looking for a revival’ after a disappointing year at Everton last season following a summer move from Brighton and so is presumably open to the switch to Italy.
There’s no mention of a move at this moment in time but with Everton potentially pushing for Dia, that would open the door for Maupay to depart.
The obvious answer is that the two clubs engage in some sort of exchange deal with both players, and negotiating sales either way, which would be better for both balance sheets.
