Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite would ‘prefer’ to stay with PSV Eindhoven next season, but the Blues are making a permanent move to the Netherlands impossible.
That’s according to Voetbal International, relayed by PSV Fans, who say Everton’s asking price is continuing to prove a problem for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side.
Branthwaite has spent this season on loan with PSV and established himself as a key player in the first team, impressing in the centre of defence in both the Eredivisie and Europe.
PSV have made it clear for some time that they would like to sign the youngster on a permanent basis, but Everton are so far refusing, which VI offer more detail on.
They say that while PSV want the player and Branthwaite has made it clear he ‘would also prefer’ to stay there, at the moment his transfer fee is too high.
Everton have already said no ‘several times’ to PSV, putting a €10-15m price tag on the 20-year-old in an effort to ward off the Dutch’s side’s interest. So far, that appears to have worked.
However, VI say that according to the player’s entourage, this stance could change if Everton are relegated from the Premier League this season.
That could force a rethink at the club, as well as a desperate need to bring in funds, potentially opening the door for them to sell Branthwaite at a lower price.
If not, the player is one PSV would like to keep regardless, and they may even try for another loan deal if Everton continue to refuse to sell him permanently.
