Good news for Everton, Henry Onyekuru survived his game with Anderlecht’s reserves on Tuesday night, and there’s a good chance he could be in the squad to face Charleroi on Sunday.

This is, at least, what DH are reporting on Wednesday, explaining the 25 minutes the Nigeria international played up front went well, and his knee never showed any signs of giving way again.

He even showed his usual pace, using it to assist Nelson Azevedo-Janelas to make the score 4-1.

That, in itself, didn’t surprise the young forward, who always expected his time on the pitch to go smoothly.

He said: “I knew there wouldn’t be any problems because I’ve been working a lot. I wasn’t scared at all. The goal was to get some rhythm back. I hope to be in the squad on Sunday.”

His performance was watched by the first-team manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck and the new owner Marc Coucke.

For Everton, this is the first important step in their loanee’s return, as they hope he gets into Nigeria’s squad for the World Cup and plays enough to be able to get a work permit to feature at Goodison Park next season.

Capable of playing down the wing or through the middle, he would offer Sam Allardyce (or whoever replaces him) a great attacking threat going into next season.
