Everton and Liverpool have Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier on their list for the summer transfer window, with Burnley also keen and Brentford having approached him this month.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say a move was rejected outright in this window by the German side but a move in the summer could be on.
They explain that Burnley, Everton and Liverpool have all been watching the 21-year-old and have him ‘on the list’ ahead of a possible move later this year.
Brentford tried to jump ahead of that competition by moving this month, but it was neither an option for the player or for his club.
That’s because he only recently signed a new deal at Hoffenheim which includes a €32.5m release clause, which is reduced by €2.5m per season. Thus, that would have to be met for Hoffenheim to accept a deal, which, presumably, it was not.
Instead, it is expected that the interested parties will pay that fee for him in the summer, particularly if Beier managed to make it into Germany’s European Championship squad. That’s a distinct possibility as he’s managed seven goals and five assists in 18 games in the Bundesliga so far.
Naturally any move from Burnley or Everton would be dependent on them staying in the Premier League, and the latter sorting out their financial issues in the coming months.
Liverpool could comfortably pay such a fee so it’s no bother for them and Brentford could have big money to spend by the summer if Ivan Toney moves on as expected so they’d have no issue matching it either.
He’s a name to keep an eye on then, with his performances so far having earned him a growing list of admirers all queuing up ahead of the summer.
