Everton are hesitating over a move for Sevilla defender Juanlu Sanchez, despite him being open to leaving the Spanish club.

That’s according to ABC Sevilla. They report that Everton aren’t the only ones with their eye on the Sevilla defender.

They explain that Sevilla once again have a need to sell before they can buy anyone this month. That’s put the focus back on academy graduates, with Juanlu at the top of the list.

Antonio Cordón, Sevilla’s sporting director, is working on an exit for him. The full-back has been attracting the attention of European clubs for some time. In fact, he was the subject of a failed move to Napoli in the summer transfer window.

That is even more unlikely to happen now as Napoli also need to sell before they can buy. Thus, Sevilla are looking for other clubs to come forwards. Juanlu is the same, having ignored other offers to join Napoli last summer. Now he’s open to other destinations.

Everton and Bayer Leverkusen are clubs who have him on their radars, but neither has made a formal bid as yet. In the case of the German club sources have made it clear that he’s not a priority.

That could give Everton their opportunity to fix a problem area in David Moyes squad. Currently, it appears they’re not pushing forward and taking that opportunity.
