Everton’s need for a new centre back has been well covered this summer, with Marco Silva having admitted it’s a position they need to strengthen in.
However, that is yet to happen, with the Blues facing disappointment in their attempts to re-sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.
They’ve had to look for alternatives to the Frenchman, and it appears they’ve set their sights on one of his Chelsea teammates.
Foot Mercato are reporting that after it became clear that they couldn’t get Kurt Zouma, Everton are now negotiating with Chelsea for a loan move for Fikayo Tomori instead.
Indeed, negotiations have already begun about a potential loan move, doing so ‘in recent hours’, with the Toffees pushing hard to get the deal done before tomorrow’s deadline.
The defender spent last season on loan at Derby County and despite Frank Lampard’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, is unlikely to get much game time this coming season.
A loan move would suit all parties as he’d get playing time at Everton, they’d get the back up they need, and Chelsea find a short-term home for one of their hot prospects as well.
