Everton have asked for information from Napoli regarding midfielder Jens Cajuste, despite Ipswich Town closing in on a deal for him.
That’s according to journalist Gianluca di Marzio, relayed by Calcio Napoli 24, who says Everton have made a late request for information.
Cajuste is ready to leave Napoli this summer and Ipswich have been closing in on a deal for him after a previous move to Brentford seemed to collapse.
However, Di Marzio reports that Everton have ‘asked for information’ about the player as they continue to rebuild their own squad.
They’ve had a busy summer so far but need a central midfielder to replace Amadou Onana, despite new arrival Tim Iroegbunam impressing in pre-season so far.
Cajuste could fit the bill and Everton do have a good working relationship with Napoli in place after deals in the past and the loan agreement for Jesper Lindstrom this summer.
The Toffees would likely be looking at a loan deal again and have one space left for an international loan in their squad, although there is presumably some money left in the budget after selling Onana.
It’s a situation to keep an eye on but Everton’s need is there, and they’ve asked for information on Cajuste, which could be the start of a push to intercept Ipswich’s move for him.
