Everton may be handed their chance to sign Ajax striker Chuba Akpom at the end of the January transfer window as he wants to leave the Dutch club.

That’s according to journalist Sjoerd Mossou, who says the striker wants a move and thus could get it before this month’s window closes.

Akpom has been in good form for Ajax this season, with nine goals in 20 games to date despite only featuring as a substitute and getting 672 minutes of action in total.

It is those lack of minutes which have led to reports that he could be moved on at some point, with the player seemingly unhappy to have only played in 25% of the available minutes in the Eredivisie this season.

Reports in England have indicated that Everton could be one of his potential suitors, with them currently struggling for goals as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have not proven to be regular goal scorers this season.

They’re currently hampered by a lack of finances and two breaches of Profit and Sustainability rules meaning transfer deals are hard to come by, but Mossou says they could get their man.

“I think Akpom is a nice player, that is certainly not Mislintat’s biggest bad buy,” Soccer News report him saying to AD’s Voetbalpodcast, with them adding that Akpom ‘would like a transfer’.  They also name Everton and Luton as potential suitors.

“That could have been a nice Ajax player as a substitute. You don’t have to sell him, but that is a typical player that clubs come for.

“Clubs like Lille or Nottingham Forest still dare to take that gamble. After all, he has Ajax behind his name. You will lose those types of players.”
