On Monday morning, Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web claimed that Everton were one of the clubs who could sign Juventus midfielder Arthur at the end of the transfer window.

The Toffees showed up along with Sporting as candidates to land the 26-year-old, who’s still likely to leave the Old Lady this summer.

It turns out that later on, the French media came up to say that the Everton are close to signing Idrissa Gana Gueye from Paris Saint Germain.

A couple of local outlets said that there are few details left for the Senegalese player to complete his move back to Goodison Park.

That’s why Tutto Mercato Web are now back with another story saying Everton are no longer a potential destination for Arthur.

They claim that with Gueye joining the Toffees, Frank Lampard’s side are no longer after another midfielder, and are one less option for the Brazilian.

Lyon are another club who seem to be out of the race, so Arthur, who had been heavily linked to Arsenal this year, now only seems to have one option on the table, and that’s Sporting.
