Part of the German slant on Jean-Philippe Gbamin moving to Everton has revolved around Mainz’s Rouven Schröder being a tough negotiator.

After claims towards the beginning of this week of the Toffees reaching a €30m agreement with Mainz, German newspaper Bild denied it.

They said Mainz had originally wanted €35m and Everton had offered €25m, later indicating they’d be prepared to pay €30m.

However, it was pointed out that Schröder would be pushing for every penny so it could go a little higher.

Well, similar to what appears to have happened with Moise Kean, Marcel Brands has won out, because Bild now say Everton are paying less than €30m.

It’s reported the Premier League club will pay an initial €25m and just a further €2m in potential bonus payments.

Bild are backtracking on the earlier claims, and that’s potentially a result of Everton being tougher in the talks. They state that at 4.30pm the transfer was ‘fixed’.
