British talent heading abroad for game time is nothing new these days, with plenty of players now electing to secure loan deals across Europe.

Jadon Sancho’s success in the Bundesliga has sparked a tonne of players trying to replicate, to various levels of success.

Sancho’s development will undoubtedly have been on Everton forward Fraser Hornby’s mind when he elected to move to K.V. Kortrijk this summer.

The striker joined the Belgian side on a season-long loan deal, having failed to convince Blues boss Marco Silva to make him part of his first-team plans at Goodison Park this summer.

It was undoubtedly a surprise move for the 20-year-old, mostly because he had featured for Everton in pre-season but also because the expectation had been he would head into the English lower leagues or to his native Scotland.

The loan deal includes a purchase option, and Hornby says a return to the Premier League with Everton is not a priority for him.

“If I perform well here at Kortrijk and score a lot, and put in consistent performances, I don’t know what can follow,” he told Knack Weekend.

“It might also be the stepping stone to the national A-team of Scotland. Where do I want to be in five years? I have not thought about that yet.

“I am not busy with things like that. Returning to the Premier League is not an absolute priority. I want to play at the highest possible level, that is quite possible. Be Italy, Germany or Spain.”
