Lucas Digne’s time at Everton looks like it’s coming to an end, after the Frenchman had a disagreement with Rafael Benitez and was subsequently left out of the Spanish manager’s plans at the club.
Now, according to English reports, it looks like the defender is on his way to Aston Villa, and when bringing various claims together it seems clear Everton have been keener on selling the player to another Premier League club, rather than loaning him to a Serie A side.
When the player’s difficult situation first became clear, several Italian clubs were immediately linked. However, they all wanted deals very much weighted in their favour, with loan moves talked about, and it even suggested the Toffees would be asked to continue to cover a percentage of his wages.
When that’s added to Sky Sports saying Aston Villa could pay in the region of £20-25m to get the player for Steven Gerrard, it’s clear Everton have found a much better financial deal in England than they could have done in Italy.
