Everton are considering recalling Jarrad Branthwaite from his loan spell at PSV Eindhoven over fears about a lack of playing time at the Dutch club.
The youngster joined PSV on loan in the summer, reuniting with Marcel Brands, the man who signed him for Everton from Carlisle.
The idea was that he would get regular playing time under Ruud van Nistelrooy this season, with that not on offer at Everton following the arrivals of James Tarkowski and Conor Coady.
The 20-year-old is yet to be given a serious chance by PSV, though, playing in just 33% of the available minutes in the league so far.
That has apparently led to some unhappiness at Everton, report Eindhovens Dagblad and relayed by Voetbal Primeur, and he could be recalled to Goodison Park in January.
The newspaper says ‘it is not entirely certain’ that he will play at PSV after the winter break, with rumours already ‘seeping through’ before his impressive performance against Arsenal in the Europa League on Thursday.
Everton have taken note of the fact Branthwaite is ‘mainly on the bench’ and believe this is ‘unfavourable’ to his development and value.
While there is confidence in the player at PSV, a starting place cannot be guaranteed and that’s why Everton are considering recalling him. Branthwaite and his entourage are not commenting on the situation at present.
Should he feature more regularly in the coming months then mood at Goodison could change, but at the minute they are unimpressed and considering bringing Branthwaite back early.
