Everton spent much of the summer window being linked with a move for Matheus Nunes.
The Sporting midfielder was thought to be available for transfer, and the Toffees were the club pushed forward the strongest. There was even talk of a deal being agreed between Everton and the Lisbon club, and the player wasn’t totally against the idea either.
However, it all collapsed, and weeks later it was claimed in Portugal that Rafael Benitez hadn’t been as keen on the player as others at the Premier League club were.
Nunes, who was born in Rio, was called up by Brazil manager Tite in August but rejected the call, knowing he could also play for Portugal.
He made his Portuguese debut in October, and acknowledged Everton rumours during a December interview.
Why are we bringing all this up again? Well, Saturday’s edition of O Jogo reports Everton had a scout at the 2-2 draw between FC Porto and Sporting on Friday evening.
Nunes just so happened to be one of the best performers on the pitch, so perhaps a move to Goodison Park could be reignited.
