Kevin Mirallas became frustrated on more than one occasion at Everton under Roberto Martinez. He felt he’d signed a new contract only to then find himself more out of the picture, which obviously harmed his chances with the Belgium national team.

Ronald Koeman taking over at Everton was a fresh start for Mirallas, only for him then to hear on August 3rd that Belgium’s new manager was… Roberto Martinez.

What could have been a disadvantage for Mirallas looks like it’s turned into an advanatge and with Kevin de Bruyne out injured, Belgium newspaper het Belang van Limburg feel the player has a decent chance of replacing him.

Mirallas is quoted by the newspaper as saying: “I do know that Thorgan has more the profile of De Bruyne, but I can give a lot. My liveliness, my attacking qualities to support the lone striker.

“At Everton sometimes I play behind the striker and that’s just about that position. The coach knows me well enough to know that.”

Martinez is well aware of what Mirallas can bring, which is perhaps why Het Belang van Limburg rate his chances so highly.

The former Everton manager has been asked his thoughts too, and Martinez explained: “He needs to play well, as he is doing at Everton. Kevin is very sharp. How annoyed he was last season, it does not matter. You know, we start again and I will not look back.”

That’s a relief for Mirallas.
