Everton are keen on signing Barcelona youngster Fermín López, according to today’s edition of Sport.

The 20-year-old has cemented his place after Xavi Hernández handed him his first team earlier in the season, and has managed six goals and an assist from 31 games.

Taking his performances into account, Sport state the midfielder has been one of the La Liga side’s ‘pleasant surprises’ of this season.

Fermín López’s displays in 2024 have seen several clubs include his name on their target list. This includes Everton, and the report claims they have ‘gone further’ in their efforts to try and sign him in the summer.

It’s claimed the Toffees have requested information about the Spain U21 international. The newspaper further adds the Merseyside club like the player a lot and had already tried to sign him in January.

Fermín López is keen on succeeding at Barcelona and that would make it difficult for Sean Dyche’s side to secure his services, but Everton have Amadou Onana in their midfield, who is on Barcelona’s agenda for the summer.

The Belgium international is the main midfield target for Barca sporting director Deco, and he’s aware that Everton are willing to sell him for €60m.

However, the Spanish giants won’t be able to invest €60m on Onana due to their financial limitations, which is why recent claims have stated Barcelona could try to lower Onana’s fee by including one of their own players as part of the deal.

Therefore, taking Sport’s report of Everton’s interest in López into account, it feels like the Catalan media are trying to convince themselves of the players who could be sent to Everton to reduce the price for Onana.
