Everton are ‘in the front row’ of clubs interested in Roma striker Tammy Abraham but face competition from Aston Villa if he is made available this summer.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the striker could depart Jose Mourinho’s side at the end of the season and the Premier League duo are waiting to see if that happens.
Abraham was the star of the show for Roma last season after a move from Chelsea but has struggled to replicate it this year, with just seven goals in all competitions so far compared to 27 last season.
That has led to speculation he could be moved on in the summer, with Gazzetta explaining that there could be a ‘split’ between him and Roma if he can’t find ‘the best version’ of himself in the remainder of this season.
That is also aided by the fact Roma need to make money from sales and know Abraham has suitors back in the Premier League.
They also state that the player’s current asking price is €75m ‘at the moment’, although ‘anything could happen’ to that in the coming months. The insinuation is that if the Abraham of last season returns then that figure will go up.
Even if it doesn’t, it’s hard to see Everton paying anywhere near to it given the state of their finances in recent years.
Indeed, it’s hard to believe they’d be able to even offer 10% of that figure.
Aston Villa are slightly different as they do have money to spend and are willing to back Unai Emery with funds in the summer, but even then €75m is a huge figure for a player with Abraham’s numbers this season.
For now, it’s simply a situation to keep an eye on, with any transfer seemingly dependent on how Abraham does between now and the end of the season anyway.
