When Everton were hunting a replacement for Frank Lampard in January, one of the surprise names to emerge was that of Davide Ancelotti.
He is currently the assistant manager at Real Madrid alongside his famous father, having carried out a similar role at Everton, Napoli and Bayern Munich since 2017.
Like his father, he’s still well thought of at Goodison Park following their two years there and some were keen to see him named, particularly amid claims the Blues remained keen to hire another young, up and coming manager.
They eventually plumped for experience in the form of Sean Dyche, leaving Davide to continue his work at the Santiago Bernabeu and gain invaluable experience.
Cuatro, though, state that he could be in line for the big job if the pressure continues to mount on his father at the Spanish club.
According to them he is the ‘shadow architect’ at Real Madrid and has ‘merits to inherit’ the bench should Carlo Ancelotti depart in the summer as has been mooted.
He is ‘seen by many’ as the man behind his father and has been ‘gaining more and more influence’ over the technical decisions being made by Carletto.
He is ‘ready to make the leap’ according to them and was ‘already considered’ by Everton just a few weeks ago. That is an indication that his work is being noticed and it’s felt they won’t be the only ones to consider him.
While the likes of Raúl and Alvaro Arbeloa are being ‘bandied about’, they don’t know about the day-to-day running of the club as Ancelotti junior does and if Florentino Pérez wanted to opt for continuity he has ‘many aspects’ to consider.
The only negative is that he has never had experience of managing a top-level bench but the current squad ‘hold him in high esteem’ and ‘respect and value’ him given the work he’s done under his father.
As far as Cuatro are concerned Real Madrid need to seriously consider him if they want to replace or his father, or indeed if they need to should he take the Brazil job.
That would be a major surprise, to say the least, and perhaps show that Everton’s idea to hire him wasn’t as crazy as it sounded at the time.
