Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are among the sides interest in AJ Auxerre defender Clément Akpa.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that both Premier League sides have shown an interest in the 23-year-old centre-back.
FM explain that Akpa’s current value is rising as he continues to impress for Auxerre and earned his first caps for Côte d’Ivoire in March.
They say it is an ‘understatement’ to say his value is one the up and there are already ‘half a dozen’ sides in Europe interested in him, particularly in England and Germany.
The defender only made his debut in Ligue 1 this season but has ‘adapted quickly’ and is now a regular on the left, ‘improving with each outing’ to date. He has 26 appearances in the league so far and has featured in 80% of the available minutes.
His coach, Christophe Pélissier, has regularly praised him in public and the interest has been growing in him. Auxerre are aware of this and extended his contract until June 2027 at the end of last year to protect themselves.
That’s not stopped interest in him and according to FM’s information, clubs are already lining up. Everton and Wolves are interested in the Premier League while Eintracht Frankfurt, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart are showing an interest in Germany.
The big problem for Auxerre is that they need to ‘replenish’ their coffers this summer and so Akpa’s departure is ‘almost certain’.
For now, neither Everton, Wolves or any of the other suitors has started discussions and no price has been set on the defender. FM do say, though, that it will ‘much more’ than the €3m he is currently valued at by the likes of Transfermarkt.
