Everton could share a director of football with AS Roma in the near future, as the Friedkin Group eye up former Atletico Madrid chief Andrea Berta.
That’s according to La Repubblica, who report that the American group are considering a change at Roma and that could also end up affecting Everton.
The newspaper, via Giallo Rossi, explain that while the Friedkins are working on the end of the transfer window, they are also questioning the future of current Roma director Florent Ghisolfi.
They’ve been left unimpressed by the work he did in the summer, when they spent €120m, and replacing him is now a ‘hot topic’.
If that happens, all eyes are on Andrea Berta, who is out of work and has an impressive CV following the job he did at Atletico Madrid during his time there.
He also ticks a lot of boxes for the Friedkins as he’s Italian, has international experience, will focus on youth and is ‘capable of synthesising the words sustainability and victories’. They also highly value the work he did on the transfer market in Spain, where he bought well but sold better.
He’s considered among the best sporting directors in the world, but the Premier League has ‘greater appeal’ at this moment in time. Arsenal are looking for a replacement for Edu while Tottenham ‘will make a revolution’ at the end of the season too.
The Friedkins, though, might have a trump card up their sleeve as they can play the ‘double card’ of offering Berta the power at Roma and Everton all in one.
That could make a lot of sense as it would allow them to sync the two clubs’ business perfectly, something they’ve made clear is a priority from day one.
