Adding midfielders seems to be something of a priority for Everton this summer, with Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph already arriving.

They may need another too, should Paris Saint Germain be successful in their ongoing pursuit of Idrissa Gana Gueye.

In fact, losing Gueye would be something of a blow for the Toffees and finding a replacement for him would become a priority should he depart.

That may be where Blaise Matuidi comes into the mix. According to Le Parisien, Everton are interested in the French World Cup winner this summer.

They report that the Blues have already ‘come forward’ to the player and shown their interest. Unfortunately, any further move is likely to be rejected.

The newspaper explains that Juventus, despite adding two midfielders in Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot to an already packed midfield this summer, are not interested in selling the Frenchman.

Matuidi still has a year left on his current contract, with an option for Juventus to extend it, so there’s no need for them sell him. In fact, the Serie A champions would prefer to get rid of Emre Can, Sami Khedira or Rodrigo Bentancur.

The midfielder then ‘has no reason to look elsewhere’ and Everton will likely have to turn their attention to more realistic targets if they are truly keen on adding another midfielder to their squad.
