Following the announcement that João Félix is expected to leave Atlético Madrid in the near future, many clubs have been linked.
A lot of the usual names have been thrown into the mix, while others, like Newcastle United, have been name checked due to their financial ability on the transfer market.
Mundo Deportivo do that on Monday, looking at the situation surrounding the Portugal international following his country’s exit from the World Cup in Qatar at the hands of Morocco.
The forward impressed during the tournament, which gives Atlético Madrid a bit more bargaining power, but with him now heading back to Spain, it is now time to sit down and discuss his future.
It’s explained that ‘for the first time since signing, he gave order to his agent, Jorge Mendes, to find him a team’.
As things stand, Atlético Madrid do not have an offer on the table, whether it be from Newcastle or anyone else, but that could change in the near future.
This is where Newcastle are mentioned, as they state the Magpies, alongside Manchester United, Aston Villa and Arsenal are ‘very attentive to the Portuguese’s movements’.
Nothing is set in stone for now, but Mundo Deportivo do state that ‘with the player wanting to leave, and with Atlético not opposing his departure due to the station and the money that he would leave in the bank account’, it would be best for all parties to sort something out ‘as soon as possible’.
Félix will now have a few days off to recover both physically and emotionally from his World Cup exit, but he should return to Atlético Madrid ‘at the end of next week’, at which point his future could be a bit clearer.
