Last month, multiple reports from the Catalan media covered Newcastle United and Everton interest in Emerson. He’s co-owned by Barcelona and Real Betis, and has been the subject of transfer rumours for some months.
As per the agreement between the two sides, the right-back will stay at Betis until the end of next season, and the Blaugrana will have to pay €6m to take him in 2021.
Barca’s idea is to cash in from the Brazil international’s sale this summer and pay part of the fee (€9m) to Los Verdiblancos.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Toffees and AC Milan have tabled offers for the 21-year-old, but Ronald Koeman’s side have ‘said no’ to the proposals received from both clubs.
Milan saw two of their offers rejected, and one of them included a player plus cash deal, whilst the other was an offer around €20m. Barcelona are asking around €32m for Emerson.
Everton proposed a deal to take the defender on a two-year loan deal for ‘couple of million’ and include a ‘mandatory purchase option’ of €20m. The Camp Nou side ‘said no’ to the Merseyside club’s offer due to an ‘economic issue’.
Barca are in urgent need of money and the proposals received for Emerson are not close enough to their demands. The newspaper states the issue is ‘complicated’, while the player is ‘upset’ with the entire situation.
Emerson’s desire is to play for Barcelona, but if he cannot fulfil it, he would prefer to join a club that can offer him European football.
